Gifted and talented children have different needs than other students. They think differently and often excel in a few different areas. MENSA is an organization designed for these talented young individuals. They offer services and activities to their members (to join an approved IQ test must be done). MENSA offers services and information for those who are not members. They have many games on their site and even offer a program to encourage reading.
MENSA for Kids is a site designed just for them. They get to write book reviews, Publishers love to have high-quality reviews written by these young gifted readers. There is a magazine designed just for them and their ideas. There are suggested activities and challenges. It even includes articles for parents on a variety of subjects to be able to help their gifted children.
MENSA Excellence in Reading is a program where children read a list of books divided up into grade groups. They keep track on the log with the date they finished each book and the number of stars he or she rates the book. When a child reads all the books on the list, the parent affirms it is complete and accurate and signs it along with the reader. Then the log is sent into MENSA. The child receives a t-shirt and a certificate the first time and after each log is completed another certificate is sent.
